Without certainty, how will you keep your mind at peace and healthy?

 

Keeping your body healthy is relatively simple, even in times without gyms. Today’s post isn’t about that.

Today I want to share with you how to keep your thoughts safe from outside influence.

It is confusing, frustrating and alarming when you feel the government could be doing things differently, your career is in the balance and your safe zone is closed for social distancing.

So there’s 2 options… Day drinking or protecting your mind and body with the below advice.

 

1. Structure.

Your brain craves routines and patterns. It’s how it teaches you and loves the efficiency of it. Then your world gets turned upside down and the brain fears that uncertainty and that change because it’s unsure of the pattern.

However, the solution is simple. Your day needs structure and the only way it gets that is when you choose to put it in place.

My routine? Up at 4:30AM each morning, even though there is no physical coaching I still get up at the same time. It’s a non-negotiable.

I perform my daily journaling, I reflect on the day before, write 3 things I’m grateful for, 3 things I will achieve and then make space to be thoughtful, sometimes that just means a 10 min walk with no phone.

My day starts the same and it gives me a clear vision for what I need to do for the remainder of the day, which gives me peace.

 

2. Fruit and Veggies

Now more than ever, when you are finding yourself more confined, you need the right nutrients.

Your brain thrives off getting the right vitamins and minerals and will save you from that mind fog that can kick in when a diet consists of sugary and salty crap.

5-6 Servings of veggies and 2 servings of fruit.

Easy ways to do that include 2 Carrots (with hommus) = 2 servings. A mixed salad can be another 2 servings… you only need 1 more serving to maintain a healthy mind. Add 2 pieces of fruit and you are flying.

 

3. Don’t forget water.

Sitting at home working you can forget to grab a glass of water. I’m a culprit of that on big days of programming and writing.

And even more so if you’re less active.

Your brain is composed of 73% water and if you are missing out on enough each day, it’s going to close down some of it’s functions to standby mode to survive.

2 Litres, per day. Just grab a bottle and leave it next to your computer, or put it on the coffee table.

This is pretty simple advice but trust me when I say it will give you focus, clarity and a new vision.

You’ll also sleep better and actually feel like exercising because your body has so much more energy!
