It’s always the same in the movies. Everything is looking bad. The bad guy is winning, the damsel is still in distress and the hero is down and out.
And yet somehow, the hero figures out at the right time how to win the day and be the best that they can be.
My favourite hero is Goku from the series ‘Dragon Ball’. He always manages to find a new strength and new power within him he didn’t even know he had yet.
But there’s a reason for that. Goku always steps up to the plate no matter what the challenge is.
THINGS WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN THEY SEEM THE MOST INCONVENIENT!
Think about it. You were going to kick off your new years by joining a gym, but you’ll wait until after that holiday.
Oh and after Australia day because you want to drink and not have to have some self control.
Oh and then you have Valentine’s day we can’t do it then because you’re planning something big.
Hell, let’s just join after we eat our bodyweight in chocolate at Easter.
Are you seeing a bit of a pattern here? This is the mindset of a victim. Of someone who plays to their emotions and circumstances not creating opportunities for themselves to become the hero.
Goku is never fully ready when trouble comes. But he stands up and decides to fight for what he wants. Otherwise he will just be another victim.
YOU’LL NEVER BE A HERO IF YOU’RE ALWAYS A VICTIM!
Think about the victims in every movie you see. Sometimes it’s not necessarily their fault but they all have the same things in common.
They don’t think they can win.
They tell themselves they can’t do it.
They come up with reasons to run away or not commit to trying.
Playing the victim card happens sometimes but it shouldn’t be your default. If Bruce Wayne played victim we wouldn’t have Batman. If Tony Stark played victim in Afghanistan we wouldn’t have Iron Man. If Rei (Star wars) played victim to her life as an orphan we wouldn’t have the latest Jedi.
All these Heroes have this in common:
They acknowledge what they want to change.
They make a commitment to changing it.
They take small actions every day to grow their belief.
So what action are you going to take today to become the hero of your own journey?
Who do you want your family/friends to see you as?
